The Saints women's basketball team fell to no. 1 seed Langston University in the semi final round of the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament Friday. The final score was 90-72.
The Saints stayed close throughout the first half by shooting 39% from the field. At the end of the half Langston led 41-34. Free throw shooting was a bright spot for the Saints who were 9-11 (81%) from the free throw line. Offensive rebounds hurt the Saints by giving up 15 second chance offensive rebounds in the paint which turned into the 16 points for Langston.
The second half started with intensity from both teams. Defensive pressure by Langston and points in the paint told the tale as the game went on. The Saints finished with 39% from the field, 3-point shooting 46%, and free throws at 66%. The Saints battled back to within 8 points at the 6:30 mark but Langston finished strong to come away with the win. Leading in points for the Saints were Stacy Darnley with 13, Krystal Manning with 13, and Alisha Crump with 12.
This ends the season for the Saints women who put up a valiant effort against the no. 1 seed Langston. The Saints women finished fifth in the Red River Conference in their inaugural year. They end with a record of 17-15 for the season. Congratulations to the Saints on a great season!
