SAN ANTONIO (June 11, 2012) -- The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's basketball team has signed Bridge Lavey to its 2012-2013 squad. Lavey is a graduate of Atascocita High School in Humble, Texas, near Houston.
The Saints finished last season as the Red River Athletic Conference regular season champions with a 21-3 record and 27-8 overall. The team was runner-up in the conference tournament and qualified for the NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Championship Tournament, where they made it to the Sweet 16 round.
Lavey played all four years on the varsity basketball team at Atascocita. The 6'6" forward is described by recruiting profiles as a player who "constantly works hard to better himself academically, as well as athletically... He is always one of the leading scorers at his high school, but is always willing to pass the ball to his teammates to get the best shot possible."
During the 2011-2012 season, Lavey scored a season-high 26 points against Sam Houston and averaged 12 points per game. He was named to the District 14-5A All-District team last year.
Saints Men's Basketball Coach Russell Vanlandingham said, "Bridge played in one of the toughest districts in the state of Texas and had a great individual season. He is a perfect fit at the small forward position and has a high basketball IQ. I'm excited that he is joining our program this year."
The Saints will begin their season in November.
