SAN ANTONIO (June 18, 2012) -- The second annual 8v8 soccer tournament sponsored by Our Lady of the Lake University begins today. Last year's tournament hosted more than 150 high school girls who formed 12 teams for the tournament, and officials indicated it was a huge success.

This year's event includes girls from Pleasanton, Harlandale, John Jay, Memorial, Antonian, Warren, South San, Highlands, East Central, Southwest, Jefferson, Lanier, Brackenridge and Edison High Schools. The girls will be grouped into 12 teams representing Brazil, USA. Germany, Norway, Sweden, Mexico, France, England, Australia, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands. Participants are either freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors -- all younger than 18 years old.

The teams will play each other once, and the team with the most points at the end of the season will be the champion. A win equals three points, a tie equals one point and a loss equals no points.

The tournament is scheduled to take place June 18, June 20, June 25, June 27, July 2, July 9, July 11, July 16, July 18, July 23 and July 25. Game times are at 2 p.m., 3 p.m., 4 p.m., 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The games will be played at St. Martin Hall Soccer Field adjacent to the Lake's main campus and are free and open to the public.

Current and former members of the OLLU Saints women's team will provide the coaching, including Hailey Olden, Amanda Lozano, Victoria Vazquez and Bianca Ramirez. They each will work with the teams throughout the tournament.
