AUSTIN, TEXAS (Oct. 26, 2013) -- The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's soccer team finished the regular season in third place after beating Huston-Tillotson University 5-2.
The Saints (4-2-1/11-3-1) will host No. 6-seed University of the Southwest (3-4/4-9) on Friday, Nov. 1, at 1 p.m. No. 4-seed Huston-Tillotson (4-3/5-8-2) will host No. 5-seed Wiley College (3-2-2/7-4-3) on Friday, as well. The winners of those two games will advance to the semifinals on Nov. 8 and will face either No. 1-seed University of St. Thomas (6-1/11-3-2) or No. 2-seed University of Texas at Brownsville (5-1-1/12-2-2). The winners of the semifinals will play the championship match on Saturday, Nov. 9. These games will take place at the Houston Amateur Sports Park in Houston.
Junior Robert Alexe led the Saints offense with eight shots, seven on goal and two for goals. Alexe is now the all-time leader in most shots on goal in a single game. The previous record was six by Salim Sandoval against Northwood in 2010.
Junior Elias Cortes scored OLLU's first goal. Alexe followed with an assist from Marcelo Chapa. The Rams got on the board next on a goal from Jeminson Mejua. Freshman Angel De La Garza scored the Saints third goal, and Alexe scored his second goal on a pass from Nickolas Tyrpak. HTU's Riddle Thelus scored on a pass from Antonio Munoz. OLLU's Giovanni Sierra scored the final goal on an assist from Leonardo Artiga.
The Saints outshot the Rams 21-11. Keeper Zackery Brewer allowed the two goals, while saving six. HTU's keeper allowed the five goals while saving eight.
