The Our Lady of the Lake University Saints men's basketball team continued its three-game winning streak on Thursday evening by beating Bacone College 96-91 in conference play. With the Saints win, and a loss by no. 1 Texas Wesleyan University against Texas College on Thursday, the Saints are now in tied for first place in the Red River Athletic Conference. Texas Wesleyan and OLLU are 9-2, while Texas College is 9-3.
Bacone College and OLLU are the only teams in the Red River to claim NAIA National Players of the Week honors - Ronnie Battle for Bacone and Robert Martinez for OLLU. Battle finished with 35 points, while Martinez scored 15, but with excellent contributions from fellow freshman Dionelle Rucker and sophomore Ricardo Zanini, the Saints came out on top.

At the tip-off by Rucker, the ball went to the Warriors, but Rucker got the steal. A foul on Keonte Logan by Battle took him to the line to score the first points of the game. Martinez's three-pointer at 17:46 gave the Saints a 5-2 lead. The Saints went up 11-6 before a technical call was assessed on Logan. The Warriors tied the score at 12 with 12:50 in the first half and within two minutes, they took a 15-21 lead. The Saints went on an 11 to five run to tie the score at 26 after a three-pointer by Eddie Ortiz. Another three pointer by Ortiz and by Logan gave the Saints a 43-34 lead, and an awesome dunk by Rucker increased the Saints' lead to 47-34. The Warriors would pull through to within seven points after a buzzer shot by Chad Tyler to end the half at 53-46.

The Saints carried their momentum into the second half as Rucker continued his season-best play. The Saints would not relinquish the lead during the second half, and they led by as much as 17 to finish out the game at 96-91.

Rucker had his third double-double of the season against Bacone. He finished the game with 27 points, 16 rebounds and five steals - all three season bests for the freshman guard.

Martinez contributed 15 points, six assists and four rebounds. Zanini had 13 points.

Others posting double digits in scoring for the Warriors included Tyler with 17 and Josh Elix with 15.
