The Our Lady of the Lake University Saints men's basketball team hit the century mark for the sixth time this year with the 100-75 win against Langston University on Saturday afternoon. The Saints improved to 10-2 in the conference (13-8 overall), while Langston dropped to 3-9 and 5-13 overall.
The Saints started a little slow while Langston took a quick 2-4 lead at 18:33 in the game. After a field goal by Eddie Ortiz, senior Justin Porter came into the game. The 6'5 center out of New Orleans had been injured and had not played since Jan. 14.

The game was at 8-6 for more than two minutes before Langston's Eric Harris gets fouled by Curtis Bowens and makes two free throws tying the score. The Lions take the lead when Isaiah Johnson hits two from the paint on a second-chance shot. Robert Martinez gave the Saints the lead back after a three-pointer goes in. The Saints went on a five-point run through just under 13 minutes in the game taking the score to 16-10. They quickly added seven more points after shots by Dionelle Rucker and Martinez. Keonte Logan tried a fancy alley-oop shot that just missed going in the basket, but a rebound gave Martinez the opportunity to shoot a three-pointer taking the score to 25-15. Lions' Denard Hunt tried for a lay-up, but a block by Logan prevented the ball from going in and brought the boisterous Saints fans to their feet.

A fast break by Rucker was stopped cold by Lions' Isaiah Johnson, who was assessed a technical for intentionally knocking Rucker down. Martinez made both shots for the technical, and Rucker made both foul shots taking the score to 36-29. During the last seconds of the half, Ricardo Zanini stole the ball, passed it to Logan, who went up for the shot, missed, and Rucker tipped it in to end the half at 43-31.

The Saints continued their success in the second half as they increased their lead to 49-31 before the Lions could put their first points on the board.Ortiz shot three three-pointers in the second half to give the Saints a commanding 21 point lead - 62-41 -- with just under 15 minutes left in the game. Martinez contributes two three-pointers to take the Saints to 72-57 with 10 minutes left in the game. The Saints'biggest lead of the half was at 26 after Ortiz makes his fourth three-pointer of the game with one minute and a half left. The three points took the Saints to 100 and after a free throw made by Langston's Chris Tyler, the game ended at 100-75.

Rucker had his fourth double-double of the season by finishing with his season best 28 points and 15 rebounds. He made 11 of 14 field goals. Also finishing with 28 points was Martinez, who made seven of 13 three-pointers and nine of 15 field goals. Others finishing in double-digits were Ortiz, who had 12 points, Brian Sanders, who had 11 points, and Zanini, who finished with 10 points.

Langston's high scorer was Catrell Currie, who finished with 22 points.

The Saints will travel to Hawkins, Texas, on Monday to play Jarvis Christian University and return to play at home on Thursday against Huston-Tillotson University.
