Our Lady of the Lake University competed in the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (UMHB) Crusader Classic Feb. 5-6. Sophomore Santiago Padilla won the men's Flight 1 with a win over No. 1-seeded player from UMHB, Ramon Aguirre, 7-6, 6-2.
 
Aguirre played OLLU freshman Kuda Sengai in the semi-finals and won 7-5, 6-3. OLLU Tennis Coach Sal Castillo said, "Kudai played the best match of his collegiate career when he defeated No. 4-seed Alexander Reinsch of Southwestern University in the first round 7-6, 6-0.
Sengai and Padiolla finished in third place in the Flight 1 doubles losing to the eventual champions from UMHB, Josh Pownall/Daniel White in an 8 all tiebreaker. Sengai and Padilla then defeated Alex Graham/Aguirre for the third place finish, 8-6.
 
OLLU sophomore Christon Salinas finished fourth in Flight 2 losing to Andy Clarage of Southwestern University after he defeated Southwestern's Corbett Austin in the sem-finals. Salinas and Everett Patterson ended up in sixth place in Flight 2 doubles after losing to Alem Lam/Clarage of Southwestern 8-6.
 
OLLU sophomore Jessie Rojas finished in third place in Flight 3 singles defeating Nate Roberts of Southwestern 6-2, 6-4.
 
OLLU newcomer, Carlos Albuja upset No. 2-seeded Alex Lam of Southwestern in the first round in a great match that lasted almost three hours. Albuja won 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. He finished in third place defeating OLLU's Sengai 6-4, 6-2.
 
Salinas finished fourth in Flight 2 singles with an early round win against Corbett Austin of Southwestern 7-5, 6-4 playing great tennis despite having suffered a pulled leg muscle.  He lost in the semi-finals to the eventual champion Garrett Pekar from Mary Hardin Baylor 6-2, 6-2.
 
Freshman Michael Ramirez finished fifth in Flight 3 singles losing the first round to No. 1-seed from UMHB Daniel White 6-2, 6-3. He beat Riley Bunnell from Southwestern 6-1, 6-1 and then Ernesto Silva from OLLU for fifth and sixth place respectively.
 

Patterson defeated Corbett Austin for a seventh place finish in singles 6-1, 5-0 retired and then went on to finish seventh in doubles, as well with Salinas in a win over Albuja/Olivas 8-6.
