The Our Lady of the Lake University Saints men's basketball team now sits solely in first place in the Red River Athletic Conference after beating Jarvis Christian College on Feb. 8 by the score 106-83. Also helping the Saints' cause were key losses by formerly no. 1 Texas Wesleyan University by Texas College on Feb. 4 and by Bacone College on Feb. 8. The Saints, picked to finish 10th out of 11 teams in the conference, are now 11-2 and 14-8 overall, and are currently riding a six-game winning streak.

Jarvis Christian College out of Hawkins, Texas, was no match for the Saints on Monday evening. The team sitting in last place in the Red River Conference with a record of 2-11 and 3-19, shot 39% from the field and made two of 10 3-pointers in the first half. The Saints were five of 12 from the 3-point line and six of nine from the free-throw line. The Saints led 55-41 at the end of the first half.

Overall, the Saints made 42 of 80 field goals (.525), 10 of 24 3-pointers (.417) and 12 of 17 free throws (.706). From beyond the arc, Jarvis made just two of 21 field goals (.095) and 32 of 76 field goals (.421).

Reigning NAIA Player of the Week Dionelle Rucker was OLLU's high scorer with 32 points - besting his previous season high score of 28 from last Saturday. Rucker had his fifth double-double of the season by picking up 10 rebounds. Also finishing with a double-double was Brian Sanders, who had 11 points and 13 rebounds. Others with double-digit scoring were Ricardo Zanini with 11 and Eddie Ortiz with 17. Lead scorer for Jarvis was Phillip Gavin, who contributed 36 points.
Statistically in Division I, the Saints are ranked no. 1 in 3-point field goals made per game (8.955); no. 4 in scoring offense per game (88.909); no. 7 in steals per game (10.909) and in total 3-point field goals made (197); and no. 9 in offensive rebounds per game (14.727) and in total steals (240). In conference, the Saints are ranked no. 1 in scoring offense, while Rucker is ranked no. 1 in field goal percentage and Keonte Logan is ranked no. 3 in steals per game
The Saints will play at home on Thursday against Huston-Tillotson University. The last time the two schools met, the Saints came out ahead, 104-99.
