The Our Lady of the Lake University Saints women's basketball team was determined not to continue their two-game losing streak on Thursday evening when they faced Huston-Tillotson University at Mabee Gymnasium. The Saints persevered and beat the Rams 70-59 improving their record to 7-7 in conference and 11-13 overall, while HTU dropped to 4-10 and 6-18 overall.

Freshman Vernessa Roberts gave the Saints the first possession of the ball at the tip-off of the game. After a turnover from OLLU, HTU's Shaneka Mason made a 3-pointer to put them on the board first. Roberts followed quickly with a 3-pointer tying the score at three. The teams would tie two more times before the Saints took a four-point lead at the 13th minute of the half. The Rams went on a five-point run to take the score to 11-12. A 3-pointer from Beth Hampton kicked off the Saints' own nine-point run putting them in the lead, 20-12. The Saints furthered their lead to nine with shots by Ashley Hicks, Alisha Crump and Kenisha McDade. The Rams came back to tie the score with three minutes left in the half, but the Saints answered quickly and finished with a six-point lead, 34-28.

The Saints came on strong to begin the second half by taking a 12-point lead, 46-34 after a 3-pointer by Manning. Jennifer Davison was fouled under the basket by HTU's Ashley Bell. She made the free throw giving the Saints their biggest lead of the game, 49-34.

Manning went on a fast break from the length of the court to sink a layup, taking the score to 60-54. After a two-pointer made by Tasha Yancey and another 3-pointer by Manning, the Rams gave up hope for a comeback. The Saints ended the game at 70-59.

Manning led the Saints in scoring with 18 points, and McDade finished with 15. The team shot 34% from the field goal range, 28% from the 3-point range and 78% from the free-throw line. Huston-Tillotson's Kandice Smith finished with a double-double, 18 points and 10 rebounds.

The Saints will travel to Tyler, Texas, on Saturday to play Texas College. The last time the two teams met on Jan. 16, the Saints won 81-72. Texas College is 2-11 in the conference and 6-15 overall.
