OLLU - Tue, May. 13, 2014 - by Patricia Constantin

WACO, TEXAS (May 13, 2014) -- Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) claimed its first Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) All-Sports Award, taking the 2013-2014 distinction as the conference's top athletic program. OLLU won three postseason titles and registered points in nine of the 10 sports in which it competes.

The All-Sports Award is given annually to the RRAC member institution that performs best in the conference's sponsored sports in a given academic year. Points are awarded to the top five teams in each sport's conference tournament or championship event with each sport using a 10-8-6-4-2 scoring system for the top five finishers. The RRAC's 12 member institutions competed in five fall, two winter and four spring sports.

The OLLU women helped the Saints with championships in women's cross-country, women's soccer and softball. OLLU finished third or tied for third in men's cross-country, volleyball and men's basketball. Saints teams also registered points in men's soccer and women's outdoor track and field. In 2012-2013, OLLU finished third in the all-sports rankings.

Wiley College also had its best finish ever in the all-sports standings, only four points behind OLLU. The Wildcats won titles in men's basketball and men's track and field, while finishing as runners-up in men's cross-country and volleyball. On the strength of a strong spring with a baseball tournament title and second-place finishes in both conference track and field meets, Bacone College finished third.

The University of Texas-Brownsville, with championships in men's cross-country and volleyball, finished fourth, followed by Langston University in fifth and Huston-Tillotson University in sixth.
