SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 30, 2014) -- The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's soccer team kicked off its regular season campaign with a home defeat at the hands of the University of Houston – Vicoria (UHV) by a final score of 1-3.
"I don't think we did the best with the opportunities that we had," said Head Coach Shane Hurley. "We have to deal better with frustration."
However, OLLU let the lead slip early in the second half when Manuel Cruz scored the equalizer for UHV. In the 74th minute Samuel James scored the go-ahead goal for the Jaguars. Just two minutes later Samuel Perico scored the third goal for UHV.
Despite the loss, Hurley is content with his team creating chances offensively.
The Saints had 11 total shots with seven on target while the Jaguars had a total of 16 shots with 10 on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Zachery Brewer played the full 90 minutes and made six saves for the Saints in the loss.
Hurley will take the loss as a learning experience for his team.
"I take it as a positive that when we did not do things correctly somebody exploited us, because I'd rather play a good team now like UHV than down the road in conference play," he said.
The men's soccer team will look to bounce back from the loss on Sunday, Aug. 31, when they face off against Oklahoma City University at home.
