The Saints women's basketball team came back from a 22-point deficit in the first half to beat the Wiley College Wildcats 78-74 on Monday evening in Marshall, Texas. The Saints improved their record to 14-14 overall and 10-8 in the conference, while Wiley dropped to 8-20 and 6-12 in the conference.
The Saints scored first on a free throw by Jennifer Davison, but the Wildcats took the lead shortly thereafter and kept it through the end of the first half. The Saints would pull to within four points with nine minutes left, but the Wildcats pushed farther ahead to end the half with a 44-22 lead.
For the first 16 minutes of the second half, the Wildcats maintained a double-digit lead on the Saints, but after a foul from Wiley's Latoya Murray, Davison shot a free throw to put the Saints within four points of the Wildcats, 63-67. Additional shots by Davison, as well as Kenisha McDade knotted the game at 67 with three minutes left in the game. Krystal Manning shot a free throw to take the lead, and the two teams would tie three more times before the Saints went ahead. Free throws made by Manning and Stacey Darnley during the last 20 seconds of the game gave the Saints the 78-74 win.
The Saints shot 43% from the field and 75.7% from the free throw line. Lead scorer was McDade with 21, followed by Davison with 13. Alisha Crump had her fifth double-double of the year as she finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Manning and Darnley both contributed 11 points for the Saints.
Veronica Cleveland was the Wildcats' high scorer with 16.
The Saints will play their last home game of the year on Thursday agains Southwestern Assemblies of God University. The last time the two teams met, the Saints lost 63-36.
