SPECIAL FEATURE: The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's basketball team visited the Haven for Hope campus for a special community service project.
Haven for Hope is a private non-profit organization that provides shelter and basic needs to people in Bexar County who are experiencing homelessness.
Head Coach Ryan Wall said, "Giving back to the community is the ultimate goal because of the position we are in."
The Saints toured the Haven for Hope campus and helped organize donation items, such as blankets, water and soap that will be used by the guests of the shelter.
"Doing stuff like this not only allows us to be involved in the community, but helps us with team bonding and chemistry," Wall said.
All sports teams in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) enjoy volunteering in their communities as part of the NAIA Champions of Character program. The program aims to instill five core values in NAIA athletes and coaches: respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership, and sportsmanship. Our Lady of the Lake University shares and supports these values and strives to promote the Champions of Character program by working with students, coaches through our Champions of Character educational program.
