SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 10, 2014) — The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's basketball team defeated Bacone College (BC) 99-80 in a Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) game. The win moves the Saints to 10-1 on the season and 5-0 in the RRAC. The Warriors dropped to 4-10 on the season and 0-5 in conference.
THE BASICS: The game began with a back and forth pace that saw the the lead change a six times in the first period. OLLU led by as many as eight points with less than 90 seconds left in the half, but BC was able to cut that in half with the last shot of the half for a halftime scoreline of 44-40. In the second half, the Saints were able to create some separation after shooting 53 percent and great performances from Jeremy Hines and De'Quentin Greer to win by a margin of 19 points 99-80.
THE STORY ON OFFENSE: OLLU had four players in double figures on the night. The load was carried by Jeremy Hines and De'Quentin Green who scored 26 and 24 points respectively. Hines' numbers were 9-of-18 in field goals, 5-of-12 from 3-point range, and 3-of-5 from the free-throw line. Greer's 24 points came off of 10 field goals and four free throws. The other two players in double-digit scoring were Christian Wood-Dvorak with 15 points and Darion Brown with 11 points.
BC only had two players in double figures — Matt Qualls and Geo Brewer. Qualls was 17-of-25 in field goals and 1-of-2 in free throws for 35 points. Brewer was 5-of-8 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line for a total of 14 points.
MUCH NEEDED HELP: OLLU's Brown added nine assists to his eleven points against BC leaving him one shy of a double-double. Greer and Wood-Dvorak each had three assists. As a team the Saints dished out a total of 19.
The Warriors recorded 17 total assists in the game. Rashad Jones led the Warriors with five followed by Nick Anderson with four.
BATTLE OF THE BOARDS: The rebound battle was dead even in the game. Both teams recorded a total of 34 rebounds. The Saints recorded 10 on offense and 24 on defense. The Warriors had only four offensive rebounds and 30 defensive rebounds.
Greer's 12 rebounds on the night were enough to lead his team in the category. The Saints player with the second most rebounds was Michael Hagan-Daniel with four rebounds.
BC's Qualls added 11 rebounds to his 35 points to secure a double-double. Brewer followed in the category with seven total rebounds.
NEGATIVES: OLLU committed 19 turnovers from which BC scored 10 points. Turnovers plagued the Warriors as they committed 30 on the night. The Saints cashed in 23 points of turnovers.
