The Saints ended their season Thursday night with a heartbreaking 79-85 loss to Wiley College in the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament.  

Starting the game for the Saints were Ricardo Zanini, Keonte Logan, Sherman Howard, Dionelle Rucker and Curtis Bowens. At the tip-off, Rucker took the Saints first possession, but Howard missed the shot. Wiley scored the first points but Rucker came right back to score for the Saints. The Saints took a 7-5 lead after a layup from Keonte. The Wildcats took the lead back after a seven point run to take the score to 7-12. Rucker got fouled going up for the layup and made the two shots at the line, taking the score to 9-12. OLLU’s Robert Martinez hit his first of three 3-pointers of the half to take the score to 12-14.

After a foul by Wiley on Rucker, the Wiley College coach got a bench warning from the official at 7:31 for excessive complaining. The game was knotted at 40 with 1:38 left in the half. The teams went to the locker room with the Wildcats leading 46-42.

The Saints took the lead after the half with a shot from Rucker bringing the score to 49-48. The Saints increased the lead to 54-51 with 14:13 left in the game. Martinez's 3-pointer made it 57-51. The teams tied it at 61 with 10:45 left to go.

Wiley took the lead back 61-63 and OLLU's Rucker tied it at 63. Logan missed the breakaway layup, but got fouled and made one, to take the score to 64-63. Zanini made a 3-pointer taking the score to 67-63. Martinez went to the line and the Saints led 70-67.

The Wildcats took a three point lead 71-74 with four minutes left in the game. The Wildcats increased the lead to 71-76. Bowens shot a 2-pointer and Martinez followed with a 3-pointer, tying the score at 76.

OLLU's Justin Porter got fouled and went to the line taking the score to 77-76. But Wiley took back the lead, out hustled the Saints and finished off the Saints season with an 79-85 win.

The Saints season ends with a 16-4 conference record and 19-10 record overall.
