SAN ANTONIO (April 5, 2015) -- The Our Lady of the Lake University men's basketball team has registered to participate in the Susan G. Komen® Race for the Cure® that takes place on Saturday, April 11. The 5k run will begin at the Alamodome in downtown San Antonio
Head Coach Ryan Wall said, "We are running in honor of Tiffany Johnson, mother of De'Quentin Greer. Tiffany joined the angels in March of 2014 after battling breast cancer."
Greer, better known as "DQ," joined the Saints team last season after transferring from Blinn College. Greer became the Saints' co-captain this season, and he led the team in scoring and in steals. He was also among the NAIA's leaders in field-goal and free-throw percentage.
According to Wall, "DQ and members of our team are each playing a part in helping end breast cancer forever."
The Komen website says that "When a loved one is faced with the frightening diagnosis, it's natural to experience feelings like hopelessness, fear, and despair. In those moments, we are most in need of simple words and closeness of those that support us. The support brings comfort, faith and the hope of healing."
The Saints hope that you will join them in their support of DQ and all those affected by breast cancer. The team has set a donation goal of $1,000. To help them reach their goal, visit their website here to make your pledge. The community is also welcome to cheer the Saints on at the race that begins at 7:30 a.m.
