LA BAULE, FRANCE (June 30, 2015) – Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) Head Tennis Coach Sal Castillo along with Daniel Waldman captured the men's double over-60 crown representing the USA at the ITF 35th Seniors World Individual Championships.
Castillo and Waldman defeated European duo Thomas Emmrich of Germany and Alan Rasmussen of Denmark in the final match 7-5, 4-6, [10-6].
The team began its journey as the eighth seed of the tournament. In the first round they defeated Brazilians, Wong Kwan and Carlos Eduardo Mamede 6-0 and 6-1. In the second round they faced the sixth seeded Peruvian duo of Pedro Rubio Feijoo and Eduardo Vargas who they defeated 6-2, 6-1. In the quarterfinals Castillo and Waldman upset the No. 1 seed Austrian duo of Alex Haupt-Buchenrode and Harald Hellmoseder 6-1, 6-4. The team clinched its spot in the final after defeating French duo Michel Galey and Dominique Leman 6-0, 6-3.
The ITF Seniors World Individual Championships is a Grade A tournament featuring over 400 players from 37 countries competing in singles, doubles and mixed doubles.
