SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (Nov. 5, 2015) -- The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) baseball team continued its second annual Fall World Series last night with the second game of a five-game series. The Blue Team defeated the Black Team 4-3. Blue leads the series 2-0.
Top of the Third Inning: Blue scores first with three unearned runs off two Black Team errors. Patrick Castillo (FR/Pflugerville, Texas) led off the inning with a single. Austin Gallego (SR/Bryan, Texas) reached on a throwing error by third baseman Matthew Beasley (JR/Burleson, Texas). Castillo advanced to third on the play bringing up lead-off hitter David Perez III (JR/El Paso, Texas). Perez drew a walk to load the bases for Connor Kalisky (JR/San Antonio, Texas). A throwing error by shortstop Tyler Davis (SR/Weatherford, Texas) scored Castillo and Gallego. With runners on first and third, Garcia settled in and struck out the next two hitters. Perez scored the third run of the inning on a fielder's choice as Kalisky was tagged out on a stolen-base attempt. Blue took the 3-0 lead.
Top of the Fifth Inning: Blue struck again when they added another run. With Matthew Tovar (FR/San Antonio, Texas) in relief, Leudy Betancourt (SR/Danbury, Conn.) led off the inning with a single. He advanced to second off a Tovar wild pitch. Kolby Lunsford (FR/San Antonio, Texas) flied out to Anthony De Jesus (SR/Sugarland, Texas) as Betancourt tagged up for third base. A De Jesus throwing error allowed Betancourt to score giving the Blue Team the 4-0 lead.
Bottom of the Sixth Inning: The Black Team rallied for two runs off reliever Ivan Herrera (SO/Edinburg, Texas). De Jesus and Beasley led off the inning with two singles. With runners on first and second and no outs, Kevin Jamerson (JR/Oxnard, Calif.) reached on a fielder's choice. After a Matthew Mihalov (FR/Conroe, Texas) walk to load the bases with two outs, Chris Johnson (JR/San Antonio, Texas) drove a double down the left field corner to score Beasley and Jamerson. Mihalov was thrown out at the plate trying to score from first by a perfect relay from Manuel Galvan Jr. (JR/Baytown, Texas) to Perez, who threw a strike home for the third out of the inning to kill the Black Team rally. The score stood at Blue 4-Black 2.
Bottom of the Seventh Inning: The Black Team cut the lead to one and left the tying run at third base to end game two. With one out, Davis and Galvan drew walks off reliever Jesus Ramirez (FR/Quitman, Texas). A flyout to left field allowed Davis to tag up from second leaving runners on the courner. Galvan stole second base and advanced to third on a Chance Evans (SO/Cleveland, Texas) throwing error. Davis scored on the error to close the Blue Team's lead to one. With two outs and the tying run at third base, Beasley grounded out to end the game giving the Blue Team the 4-3 win and the 2-0 lead in the five-game series.
The Black Team struck out 13 Blue hitters and did not allow an earned run in the loss. All four of the Blue runs were unearned, scored off five Black errors. Both teams had four hits in the game.
Blue Team: David Perez III went one-for-three, one run; Leudy Betancourt with one-for-three, one run; Patrick Castillo went one-for-two, one run; team had four runs, four hits, no errors.
The Saints will play Game Three of the Fall World Series on Monday, Nov. 9, at 6 p.m.
