SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (Nov. 17, 2015) -- The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) baseball team concluded its second annual Fall World Series on Nov. 13 with the fifth game in a five-game series. The Black Team won game five 7-2 to win the series 3-2.
Bottom of the Second Inning: The Blue Team scored two runs to take the 2-0 lead as Joshua Razo (SR/Pearland, Texas) singled to lead off the inning. With two outs, Razo advanced to third on an error by Dylan Stewart (FR/Little Elm, Texas) off the bat of Enrique Ruiz III (SO/Helotes, Texas) to put runners on the corners for Austin Gallego (SR/Bryan, Texas). Gallego singled to drive in Razo and Ruiz advanced to third. David Perez III (JR/El Paso, Texas)'s single brought home Ruiz. Perez was thrown out at second base trying to stretch the play to end the inning.
Top of the Third Inning: The Black Team scored its first run to cut the lead to one. Escobar struck out the first two hitters to bring up Kevin Jamerson (JR/Oxnard, Calif.). Jamerson drew a walk and advanced to third on a throwing error by Escobar on a pick-off attempt. Lead-off hitter Matthew Mihalov (FR/Conroe, Texas) singled to score Jamerson putting the Blue Team on the board.
Top of the Fourth Inning: The Black Team answered and took a 3-2 lead by scoring two runs. Anthony De Jesus (SR/Sugarland, Texas) led off the inning with a double and scored on a Nicolas Casas (SO/San Antonio, Texas) fielding error off the bat of Manuel Galvan Jr. (JR/Baytown, Texas) With no outs, Matthew Beasley (JR/Burleson, Texas), put down a sacrifice bunt that Escobar bobbled putting runners on first and second. Galvan advanced to third on a fielder's choice by Razo. Galvan scored on a throwing error by Casas on an attempted double play to close the scoring for the Black Team.
Top of the Fifth Inning: The Black Team extended its lead to 5-2 when Jamerson walked to lead off the inning. Mihalov singled as Jamerson advanced to third base. Tyler Davis (SR/Weatherford, Texas) drove in Jamerson on a groundout that advanced Mihalov to second on the play. De Jesus singled to drive in Mihalov to give the Black Team a three-run lead.
Top of the Eighth Inning: The Black Team added two more runs to extend its lead to five runs. Galvan singled to lead off the inning. Blue reliever, Gabriel Raygoza (JR/San Antonio, Texas), got Beasley to fly out and then struck out Eric Contreras (SR/Oxnard, Calif.). With two out, Luis Castellanos (FR/San Antonio, Texas) was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. TJ Kassner (FR/Corpus Christi, Texas) hit a two-out double to clear the bases to score Galvan and Castellanos and give the Black Team the 7-2 lead. The Blue Team was not able to score in the ninth inning to give the Black Team the series.
Black Team wins three straight games to win the series after losing the first two games of the series.
