Freshman Aaron Flores of Our Lady of the Lake University took top medalist honors at the Red River Athletic Conference Championship Tournament on April 20. Winning the NAIA Qualifier held at the Iron Horse Golf Course in North Richland Hills, Texas, earned Flores an automatic bid to the 59th NAIA National Championship.
 
Following the tournament, OLLU Golf Coach Eric Moore was named Red River Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.
Texas Wesleyan University men's golf team won the tournament with a score of 858 and will represent the Red River at the national tournament. The Saints finished in third place behind Northwood University with a score of 292-283-303=878.
 
Flores shot even par (70) on Tuesday at five-under for the tournament. He finished two shots ahead of Northwood University's Lucas Bogdan to win top honors. Bogdan is the no. 1 ranked golfer in the RRAC.
 
Adam Palacios shot 72-72-78=222 to tie for 10th place. Arnold Martinez finished in a tie for 16th with a score of 72-75-80=227, Jacob Torres scored 80-71-79=230 and Larry Lopez scored 78-79-76=233.

During his second season, women's golfer Brady Viertel won the Schreiner Wom en's Fall Classic and Flores won the Lucio Collegiate Invitational Tournament sponsored by the University of Texas at Brownsville. The men's team placed fifth in the Northwood Tournament, ninth in the UST Texas Intercollegiate and third in the Schreiner Invitational.
Prior to coming to OLLU Moore was an assistant golf coach at NCAA Division II Northeastern State University, where he helped coach the men's team to three consecutive Lonestar Conference Championships and the women's program to a Lonestar Championship in 2006. Moore also had a successful collegiate career at Northeastern State. He was named to the All-American team his junior and senior years, and he was also a two time Academic All-American. Northeastern State University experienced one of the greatest stretches of team golf during Moore's time at the school, including participating in the NCAA Finals in 2004.
 

The 59th NAIA National Championship will be held May 18-21 at TPC @ Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.
