FARMERS BRANCH, TEXAS: After a first round bye, the Our Lady of the Lake University Saints lost 4-5 to the Northwood University Knights in 10 innings in the second round of the Red River Athletic Conference Championship Tournament on April 30.
Defending champion Northwood advanced to defeat top-seeded Texas Wesleyan, 6-2, to earn a spot in Saturday's championship game.
The second-seeded Saints moved to the loser's bracket and took on Bacone College, who earlier lost to the University of the Southwest. The Saints beat the Rams 7-3 and will continue on in the tournament at 10 a.m. on Saturday against the University of the Southwest.
The winner between OLLU and Southwest will go up against Texas Wesleyan University at noon on Saturday, and the winner of that game will take on Northwood University in the championship game at 4 p.m.
In the Saints' first game, the Northwood Lady Knights quickly loaded the bases in the first inning on an error by the Saints, which brought in two runs for Northwood. The second inning saw a double by Elbra Labron giving the Knights the 3-0 lead.
In the fourth inning, Dawn Villegas got to base after being hit by the pitcher and Brooke Hernandez blasted one over the fence taking the score to 2-3. Northwood's Angelique

Meek came back in the fifth inning with a home run to increase their lead to 2-4. In the bottom of the fifth inning, OLLU's Bianca Salinas and Meagan Potts hit back-to-back home runs to tie the game at four. Still tied In the ninth inning, the international rule came into effect automatically putting a runner at second to expedite the completion of the game. Into the 10th inning, Northwood's Jillian Jones hit one to center to drive in a run for the Knights. The Saints could not score in the bottom of the 10th, ending the game at 5-4,
Kailyn Miller started at pitcher for the Saints in the game against Bacone. After giving up four hits and three runs through the third inning, Villegas came in. She pitched four innings giving up one hit, striking out three and walking one for the Saints.
Designated hitter Tiffany Stritz went 1-for-4, scoring one run and three RBIs. Bourg went 2-for-4 and Villegas went 2-for-2. Also scoring for the Saints were Corina Noel, Bourg (2), Potts and Maria Flores.
The Saints had 10 hits and one error, while Bacone finished with five hits and four errors.
