VICTORIA, TEXAS (Sept. 27, 2016) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) golf team cruised to a victory on Tuesday at the University of Houston – Victoria (UHV) Fall Classic. The Saints, who placed second last year at the UHV Fall Classic, kept their lead from the first two rounds on Monday to capture their first tournament win since 2013.
Overall the Saints went on par (286) in the final round to win the tournament by 26 strokes.
Head Coach Alan Baxter said, "I am very proud of our A team. I'm also very proud of our B and C teams. Everyone represented themeselves, their families and OLLU proudly. We are seeing some fruits of our labor. This group is special and super deep. We will continue to work hard. We have lofty goals. Kane [Ybarra] and Bailey [Burgett] -- what can I say -- two freshmen in the top three. Kane was so close. I had chill bumps watching Kane in the playoff. So much to say. I really want to shout out to all the coaches and the staff for the support; also to the SID staff. All the teams admire our marketing and website -- makes us want to perform even more. I especially want to thank [Assistant] Coach Arnie Martinez. He has worked so tirelessly. He is a superstar coach. He is really big time. He deserves so much credit for this win. Tomorrow is a new day. Time to conquer some new goals."
