SAN ANTONIO (June 2, 2010) - Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) announced today that John Sobieski has signed a letter of intent to run cross-country for the University. Sobieski attended Mount Carmel Academy in Houston, where he lettered all four years in cross-country and track. In addition, he was the team's MVP all four years.
His accomplishments on the field include: 6th place finish at 2007 4A TAPP's StateCross CountryMeet; 4th place finish in the 3200m at 2008 4ATAPP's State Track and Field Meet; 2nd place finish at 2009 TCAL State Cross Country Meet; 1st place finish in the 1600m at the 2010 TCAL State Track and Field Meet; and 3rd place finish in the 3200m at the 2010 TCAL State Track and Field Meet.
Sobieski excelled in the classroom, as well. He graduated in the top 20 percent of his class. He will attend OLLU on both academic and athletic scholarships.
"I am excited to have John join the team. He should be able to help us start things off right with the men's team," said Head Cross-Country Coach Stephen Sherman. "He is a smart serviceable runner who has a lot of potential to do well at the Lake. Also, he is a great student and will positively contribute to the overall well-being of the university."
