SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 13, 2017) — Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's golf is in sixth place after two rounds of the 2017 James S. Litz Memorial sponsored by the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW).
The third and final round will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 14, beginning at 8 a.m. at the Republic Golf Course.
Head Coach Alan E. Baxter commented, "We did not play well today. We struggled. I hope we play better tomorrow. We need to learn how to score when we are not playing our best. Tomorrow is a new day."
Atop the leaderboard is UIW with a first round score of 291 and second round score of 284, for an overall 575 and 7-over par. Oklahoma City University is in second place at 12-over par 580 (288/292), followed by Schreiner University at 592 (295/297), Abilene Christian University at 594 (295/299) and Western Texas College at 595 (299/296).
The Saints shot a first round 297 and a second round 301 for an overall 598.
Kane Ybarra (FR/San Antonio, Texas) is leading the Saints with a 1-over par 143 (70/73). He is followed by Christopher Schriedel (SR/Helotes, Texas), who shot a 150 (76/74), Stevan Hinojosa (JR/Mission, Texas) at 152 (74/78), Rafael Jauregui (JR/Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico) at 158 (82/76) and Jeremy Gordon (SR/San Antonio, Texas) at 160 (77/83).
Ybarra is in fifth place overall and Schriedel is tied for 24th.
Following OLLU is Odessa College - 601 (298/303), Alabama State University - 604 (308/296), Oklahoma Wesleyan University - 607 (302/305), University of New Orleans - 616 (311/305) and Texas Southern University - 621 (310/311).
OLLU's B Team is tied for 11th place with Texas Southern with a first round 308, second round of 313, for an overall 621.
The B Team for OLLU is led by David Ray Jr. (FR/San Antonio, Texas), who is tied for 24th place with OLLU's Schriedel. He shot a first round 79 and second round 71 for an overall 150. He is followed by Merrick Ramos (SR/Helotes, Texas) - 157 (81/76), Jonah Guajardo (FR/San Antonio, Texas) - 157 (75/82) and Taylor Kucia (SO/McAllen, Texas) - 174 (87/87).
In 13th place is the University of St. Thomas - 631 (318/313) and Prairie View A&M University - 657 (332/325).
Our Lady of the Lake University is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2016-2017 as a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The University began competing in the NAIA in men's soccer and volleyball in 2007. A year later, they added women's soccer, golf and tennis. In 2009, the Saints began competing in cross-country, softball and basketball. In 2014, OLLU added two more sports — baseball and track and field. There are now 13 intercollegiate athletic teams at OLLU. All athletic alumni and up to two family members will receive free admission to basketball and volleyball games throughout the season. Baseball is not included in this special offer. All other home games are free and open to the public.
