WACO, TEXAS (Feb. 3, 2017) – Joe Jackson (SR/San Antonio, Texas) highlights a group of four Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's basketball players to receive Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) postseason awards, winning RRAC Player of the Year.
The Saints finished the regular season 18-8, including 12-6 in conference play, earning the fourth seed in the RRAC Tournament.
Jackson led the conference in scoring, averaging 20.28 points per game (on 51.3 percent shooting) and blocked shots, with 2.04 per game, to be named All-Conference First Team. He ranked in the top 10 in the NAIA in both categories, coming in at fifth in blocks per game and seventh in points per game.
This season, Jackson became the quickest player in OLLU history to reach 1,000 career points, hitting the mark against Jarvis Christian College in his 51st game. He averaged 6.4 rebounds per game this season and has 462 total for his career. He is also the all-time leading shot-blocker in school history with 129.
This is Jackson's second consecutive All-Conference selection in two seasons at OLLU.
The Saints' backcourt of Darion Brown (JR/Alexandria, La.) and PJ Escobar (JR/San Antonio, Texas) were named to the All-Conference Second Team, helping to lead a Saints' offense that led the conference in points per game, averaging 87.54—which ranks seventh in the NAIA.
Brown averaged 11 points, 4.08 assists and 1.31 steals per game, hitting 37.5 percent from behind the 3-point line, which was 10th in conference, while hitting 2.08 3-pointers per game (sixth in conference). Brown was also eighth in the RRAC in assists per game and ninth in steals per game.
Escobar averaged 9.73 points per game and led the Saints in steals per game, averaging 1.5, which ranked sixth in conference. Escobar was the most accurate 3-point shooter in the RRAC, hitting 46.4 percent of his attempts, which ranks No. 12 in the NAIA.

Our Lady of the Lake University is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2016-2017 as a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The University began competing in the NAIA in men's soccer and volleyball in 2007. A year later, they added women's soccer, golf and tennis. In 2009, the Saints began competing in cross-country, softball and basketball. In 2014, OLLU added two more sports — baseball and track and field. There are now 13 intercollegiate athletic teams at OLLU. All athletic alumni and up to two family members will receive free admission to basketball and volleyball games throughout the season. Baseball is not included in this special offer. All other home games are free and open to the public.
