SILVIS, ILL. (May 16, 2017) -- (Team Results / Individual Results) Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's golf is in a three-way tie for 13th place after one round of the 2017 NAIA Men's Golf National Championships played at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. In first place is Cardinal Stritch University, who came in late with a 5-over 289 to take the lead.
Head Coach Alan E. Baxter said, "Disappointing day for us. We did not play smart, which is particularly disappointing. We are not out of it, but we have to play with discipline and stick to the plan."
Following Cardinal Stritch are: Johnson & Wales, 293; Wayland Baptist and British Columbia, 295; Grand View, 296; William Woods and Arizona Christian, 297; Keiser and Southeastern, 302; Dalton State, 303; The Master's and Madonna, 305.
OLLU shot a 22-over 306. The Saints were led by Christopher Schriedel (SR/Helotes, Texas), who is in a nine-way tie for 26th place. He shot a 3-over 74. Stevan Hinojosa (JR/Mission, Texas), who shot a 4-over 75, is in a 10-way tie for 35th place. Gerardo Daniel (FR/San Antonio, Texas) shot a 7-over 78 and is in a 17-way tie for 67th place. Rafael Jauregui (JR/Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico) and Kane Ybarra (FR/San Antonio, Texas) both shot an 8-over 79 for a 12-way tie for 84th place. There are 154 golfers in the competition.
OLLU is tied with Oklahoma City and Texas Wesleyan, and they are followed by South Carolina Beaufort and St. Ambrose, 309; Taylor and William Jessup, 310; Northwestern College - IA, 312; Coastal Georgia, 316; Point, 317; Oklahoma Wesleyan, 320; Lewis-Clark State, 321; Bellevue - NE, 325; Cumberland, 329; Northwest Christian, 334; Embry Riddle - AZ, 337 and Point Park, 340.
St. Ambrose University and the Quad Cities Convention & Visitors Bureau are serving as hosts of the National Championships, which are being competed at TPC Deere Run for the fifth time.
Second-round action in a four-round event gets underway Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. The Saints, who are paired with Dalton and William Jessup, tee off at 1:40 p.m. on Wednesday. Top finishers will continue playing May 18-19.
