SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 29, 2010) -- The Our Lady of the Lake University women's soccer team concluded its pre-season schedule last Sunday by topping Schreiner University 2-0. Junior Hannah Collazo scored both goals for the Saints. Last Friday, the Saints dominated the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor Crusaders 3-0. Both wins gave the Saints a 3-0 preseason record. In all, the Saints have outscored their opponents 13-1.
Although Friday's score finished 3-0, the game never appeared to be that close. Strong play by the UMHB goalkeeper denied the Saints several early chances, including two separate one-on-one saves against junior midfielder Evelyn Robledo and forward Collazo. However, the Saints broke through the UMHB defense two minutes before halftime when freshman forward Alisa Bernal found the net to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.
The Saints continued to wear down the Crusaders in the second half with dominating midfield play and penetrating runs. OLLU's increased tempo kept UMHB on its heels. In the 60th minute, sophomore midfielder Abby DuLaney delivered a cross to the far post that found Collazo waiting. Collazo coolly tucked it in the back of the net to push the Saints' advantage to 2-0.
Later, in the 75th minute, Bernal assisted on a goal by junior forward Sarah Lawrence to give the Saints a three goal lead.
Freshman goalkeeper Aschley Harrison recorded her first clean sheet of the season in shutting out UMHB.
The Saints will open their regular season campaign Monday at noon against Northwestern Oklahoma State University. They will take on Texas Lutheran University on Friday at 3 p.m.
