SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 6, 2018) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's basketball team recorded its highest scoring game of the season after defeating the University of the Southwest (USW) 95-64. The win moves the Saints to 6-0 in the Red River Athletic Conference and 11-5 overall, while the Mustangs drop to 2-4 in conference and 5-10 overall.
The Saints are 15-3 against Southwest. Their only loss came in 2010.
The Mustangs took the early lead after a field goal from Ron'Quis Lewis and a three from David Blaylock. A pair of free throws and a basket from OLLU's PJ Escobar (SR/San Antonio, Texas) put the Saints ahead at 6-5. With the board reading 13-11 in favor of the Saints, they tallied 10 straight points to go up 23-11. With a little less than four minutes left in the half, a 3-pointer from Yephnick Adelphonse (SR/West Palm Beach, Fla.) put the Saints ahead 40-18. They climbed to a game-high 46-20, and Brandell Collins (SR/San Angelo, Texas) closed out the half with a made field goal to put the Saints at 48-24. Courtney Julien (JR/Gonzalez, La.) led the Saints in scoring with 18 points.
The second half was highlighted by an outstanding performance from Zachary Mucha (FR/El Paso, Texas), who sank a 3-pointer to give the Saints the 70-47 lead at the 10:30 mark. With less than seven minutes left in the game he made another 3-pointer to push the Saints ahead at 78-52. He made his third three with less than two minutes left on the clock and was fouled. He made all three of his free throws to give the Saints a 93-61 lead. In just a little more than nine minutes, Mucha scored 12 points, and added a rebound, an assist and a steal. OLLU's Brandon Joseph (JR/Houston, Texas) made both of his free throws to end the game giving the Saints the 95-64 win.
Julien led the Saints in scoring with 26 points. He went 10-for-14 from the field, including 1-of-3 from 3-point range, and 5-of-8 from the charity stripe. Collins recorded a double-double after scoring 15 points and adding 10 rebounds. Simon Shafack Jr. (SR/Sugar Hill, Ga.) also scored 15 points, and Mucha finished with 12 points.
USW's Marcelious Green led his team with 13 points, and Lewis added 12.
Collins led the Saints in rebounding with 10. USW's Jeffrey Long recorded five rebounds.
PJ Escobar recorded four assists, and Shafack added two steals for the Saints. USW's Long added four assists.

OLLU combined for 33-of-72 shooting for 45.83 percent, 9-of-26 from beyond the arc for 34.62 percent, and 20-of-27 from the charity stripe for 74.07 percent. USW was 20-of-53 for 37.74 percent, 6-of-15 in 3-point attempts for 40.00 percent, and 18-of-30 free throws for 60.00 percent.
OLLU collected 44 total rebounds, while USW tallied 31. OLLU forced 23 turnovers and committed 14.
The Saints will travel to Austin next for a conference game against Huston-Tillotson University on Jan. 10.
