SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 19, 2018) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team suffered its first Red River Athletic Conference loss tonight against No. 19-ranked LSU-Shreveport (LSUS). The 90-93 loss drops the Saints to 13-6 overall and 7-1 in conference, while the Pilots improve to 19-0 overall and 8-0 in conference.
The Saints are 13-9 against the Pilots. Last season, the Saints lost 74-86 in the conference tournament, and 67-69 in the teams' first game.
The Pilots took the game's first lead after a field goal from Christina Devers. They went up 3-0 before Francesca Patrick (SR/Killeen, Texas) was able to score the Saints' first points of the game off free throws. Lena Wilson (SO/Converse, Texas) pushed the Saints ahead at 4-3, and the game stayed close through the four-minute mark, when LSUS went ahead by three. The teams tied two more times, and with less than a minute left in the half, Destinee King (JR/Antelope, Calif.) gave the Saints the 16-14 lead. Kasey Saldana (SO/San Antonio, Texas) made one of two free throws to give the Saints the 17-14 lead. LSUS's Alexis Collins' field goal ended the first quarter, and the Saints led 17-16.
The Saints pushed ahead in the second period, taking their biggest lead at five. A 3-pointer and a field goal from Saldana moved the Saints to 33-23, but the Pilots fought back to get to within one with a little more than a minute left in the half. A shot from Sabrina Banks at the buzzer sent both teams to the locker room tied at 41.
The Saints kept the momentum in the third quarter leading through the six-minute mark. A shot from Devers tied the game at 51, and a free throw and another basket moved the Pilots to the lead at 56-54. They went up by 10 with a little more than a minute left in the quarter. Quintianna LeShore (SR/Indianapolis, Ind.)'s made basket ended the period, and the Saints trailed 63-71.
The Pilots maintained their lead through the first half of the final quarter. Saldana helped the Saints get to within five, and Wilson made a shot to get the Saints to within three. LeShore's field goal left the Saints trailing by just one point, but the Pilots quickly regained a four-point lead. With 11 seconds left in the game, LeShore scored to move the game to 90-91. A Saints foul gave the Pilots the opportunity to go to the free-throw line, where Collins made both shots to win the game 93-90.
LeShore led the Saints in scoring with 20 points. She went 7-for-10 from the field and 6-of-13 from the charity stripe. Wilson and Saldana followed with 13 points each. Patrick scored 11, and Destinee King added 10 points and 16 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season.
Devers led her team with 26 points. Collins added 21, Sabrina Banks scored 17 and Alexandra Miller added 10.
Devers led the Pilots in rebounds with seven.
LeShore and Patrick had three assists for the Saints. Saldana added two steals. Collins led the Pilots with six assists, while Devers added four steals.

OLLU combined for 32-of-68 shooting for 47.6 percent, 5-of-17 from beyond the arc for 29.41 percent, and 21-of-39 from the charity stripe for 53.85 percent. LSUS was 35-of-72 for 48.61 percent, 3-of-16 in 3-point attempts for 18.75 percent, and 20-of-25 free throws for 71.43 percent.
OLLU collected 41 total rebounds, while LSUS tallied 37. OLLU forced 17 turnovers and committed 16.
The Saints will host LSU-Alexandria next on Jan. 20.
