MARSHALL, TEXAS (Feb. 2, 2018) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team completed its season sweep of Wiley College after defeating the Wildcats 84-72. The Saints improve to 16-7 overall and 11-1 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC), while Wiley drops to 10-8 overall and 7-4 in conference.
The Saints are 15-5 against the Wildcats. Their last loss came in 2013.
Head Coach Christopher Minner said, "We did just enough to win in an always tough environment. We executed down the stretch when we needed to. We need to bring more defensive effort especially on the road. Brianna Henson (JR/Dunlap, Ill.) played well off the bench for us. We need to play better tomorrow in another tough environment."
The Saints started the game with a 6-0 run, and they went up 10-2 before the Wildcats settled down. They came back to within one point of the Saints, but a 3-pointer from Nakia Page (SR/Bakersfield, Calif.) got the Saints back on track to give the team the 20-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Quintianna LeShore (SR/Indianapolis, Ind.) gave the Saints their first double-digit lead at 23-10 to open the second quarter. The Wildcats went on a 7-0 run to come within two at 24-26. The score stayed close through the end of the half when the Saints led 40-35.
LeShore started the third period as the team's leading scorer. Lena Wilson (SO/Converse, Texas) moved the Saints back to a double-digit lead at 47-37 at the six-minute mark. A 3-pointer from Julia Rendon (SR/San Antonio, Texas) gave the Saints their biggest lead of the game at 65-49 with two minutes left in the period. Wiley's Izegbe Enabulele closed out the quarter with a field goal, and the Saints led 65-53.
The Wildcats got to within eight at the beginning of the final period at 57-65. Brianna Henson sank a shot to get the Saints back to a double-digit lead. Destinee King (JR/Antelope, Calif.) made a shot at the five-minute mark giving the Saints the 75-61 lead. The Wildcats scored the next seven points to get to within seven with four minutes left in the game. Francesca Patrick (SR/Killeen, Texas) and Henson got the Saints back to a 80-68 lead. A 3-pointer from Kasey Saldana (SO/San Antonio, Texas) pushed the Saints to a 15-point lead with a little more than one minute left in the game. LeShore's free throw was the last point scored, giving the Saints the 84-72 win.
LeShore led the Saints with 18 points. She went 6-for-14 from the field, 2-of-3 from 3-point range and 4-of-9 from the charity stripe. Patrick scored 13 points, Rendon added 12 and Henson finished with 11 points.
Malachi McQueen led the Wildcats with 24 points, and she added 10 rebounds.
Henson led the Saints in rebounding with nine, and she added two blocks. Latisha Pitt had 10 rebounds for Wiley.
Saldana had six assists, while Patrick added four steals for the Saints. Enabulele led her team with seven assists, and McQueen added four steals. Damonica Franklin recorded three blocks.

OLLU combined for 29-of-70 shooting for 41.43 percent, 8-of-24 from beyond the arc for 33.33 percent, and 18-of-24 from the charity stripe for 75.00 percent. Wiley College was 30-of-69 for 43.48 percent, 6-of-23 in 3-point attempts for 26.09 percent, and 6-of-10 free throws for 60.00 percent.
OLLU collected 36 total rebounds, while Wiley tallied 48. OLLU forced 29 turnovers and committed 17.
The Saints will play next in Hawkins, Texas, against Jarvis Christian College on Feb. 3.
