HOBBS, N.M. (Feb. 10, 2018) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team defeated University of the Southwest (USW) 102-56 in a Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) matchup. The Saints improve to 19-7 overall and 14-1 in conference, while the Mustangs drop to 3-19 overall and 1-2 in conference.
The Saints are 17-1 against the Mustangs. Their only loss came in 2010. Wildcats. Earlier this season, the Saints defeated Southwest 104-60.
Head Coach Christopher Minner said, "It was a good road trip for us. We dictated the tempo of the game and had a good balance of inside/outside scoring. Everyone was able to contribute so that was a positive thing. We need to continue to work on our defensive rotations. We have a big home game on Wednesday – we need a big crowd."
The Saints led from the start, taking a 9-2 lead before the Mustangs got their composure to get to within two. Francesca Patrick (SR/Killeen, Texas) pushed the Saints to a double-digit lead at 17-7 and they went up by 15 with about a minute left in the quarter. A field goal from USW's Aaliyah Wheatfall ended the quarter and the Saints led 28-15.
Patrick sank a three to give the Saints a 20-plus lead in the second quarter. OLLU continued to dominate to end the half with the 47-25 lead. Patrick led all scorers with 14.
Julia Rendon (SR/San Antonio, Texas) pushed the Saints to a 30-plus lead within two minutes of the third quarter. They were able to stay with that big of a lead through the end of the period at 79-43.
Alexis Oaks (SO/College Station, Texas) connected on a three in the fourth to give OLLU its first 40-plus lead at 84-43. The Saints came close to a 50-point lead, but only got to within 48 at 102-54. Jaylan Price-Johnson closed out the game with a pair of made free throws. The Saints closed the game with the 102-56 win – the same score they recorded against Langston on Feb. 8.
Patrick led the Saints with 22 points. She went 7-for-13 from the field and 1-of-4 from 3-point range. Brianna Henson (JR/Dunlap, Ill.) scored 15, followed by Lena Wilson (SO/Converse, Texas) with 14, Quintianna LeShore (SR/Indianapolis, Ind.) with 13 and Alexis Oaks with 12.
USW's Wheatfall led her team with 13 points, and Catarina Garcia added 10.
Patrick led the Saints in rebounding with nine. Garcia had five rebounds for Southwest.

OLLU combined for 36-of-73 shooting for 49.3 percent, 8-of-23 from beyond the arc for 34.8 percent, and 22-of-32 from the charity stripe for 68.8 percent. Southwest was 17-of-54 for 31.5 percent, 5-of-17 in 3-point attempts for 29.4 percent, and 17-of-23 free throws for 73.9 percent.
OLLU collected 47 total rebounds, while Southwest tallied 37. OLLU forced 27 turnovers and committed 13.
The Saints will play their next two games at home. On Feb. 14, they host Huston-Tillotson University, and on Feb. 17, they host Paul Quinn College.
