OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 1, 2018) – Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's soccer defeated the Oklahoma City University (OCU) Stars 3-1 in a nonconference matchup.
The Saints improve to 2-0, while OCU moves to 1-1.
Head Coach Shane Hurley commented, "I'm very proud of the commitment our men demonstrated to work at a very high pace the first half and create quality chances. In the second half, we didn't bring the same focus and management of the game. We will need to improve on consistency here."
The Saints have played the Stars five times since 2012 and have won two, tied two and lost two. In 2017, OLLU lost 1-0.

The Saints started the game with seven straight shots before the Stars were able to take the ball down the field. OCU took just one shot before Adrian Delgado was able to find the net for the match's first goal. He scored on an assist from Norberto Lira at the 27th minute.
The Saints continued to keep the ball on their side of the field for most of the remaining minutes in the first half. At the 40th minute, Tristan Pettit scored on an assist from Carlos Cabrera and Nicholas Martinez to give the Saints the 2-0 lead into the second half.
The second half began with a yellow card from OLLU's Julio Gamboa (FR/San Antonio, Texas), but the Saints kept the momentum as they continued to dominate on offense.
At the 86th minute, OCU's Andrija Srecjovic scored on an assist from Namory Sidibe.
With less than four minutes left in the game, OCU's Dan White was shown a yellow card, and Jesus Cortes took the penalty kick for a goal. The Saints took the 3-1 win.

The Saints took 21 shots, 12 on goal, while the Stars took 20 shots, 13 on goal. Adrian Delgado led the Saints with six shots, three on goal. Jesus Cortes took four shots, and Guillermo Serrano (JR/Grand Prairie, Texas) took three. Andrew Flores, Aboubakr Diallo, Peter Djurdjevic and Andrija Sreckovic took three shots each for the Stars.
Saints keeper Jorge Cavazos (SR/McAllen, Texas) tallied 12 saves, while Stars keeper Andre Salvador saved nine.
Both teams tallied seven fouls each.
Aside from Gamboa, Cabrera was show a yellow card at the 66th minute and Cortes received one at the 81st minute for the Saints. White was the only one from OCU to receive a yellow card.
The Saints will play at Texas Wesleyan University on Sunday, Sept. 2, at 3 p.m.
