LIVE OAK, TEXAS (Oct. 6, 2018) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's cross-country team finished in a disappointing eighth place out of 10 teams in the UIW Invitational hosted by the University of the Incarnate Word.
Head Coach Stephen Sherman said, "To be sure, that wasn't very pretty. We were missing Sabrina Garcia (FR/Brownsville, Texas) and Audren Pineda (FR/Brownsville, Texas) for probably 60 points or so worth of loss, but we need to respond to adversity better than that. That being said, I know the women feel the same way, and we have enough character and fight in us to not let it drag us down. Our eyes and efforts will focus forward."
Capturing the overall meet was Abilene Christian, followed by UIW, McMurry, UTSA, UANL College, Trinity and Texas Lutheran. Following OLLU were the University of St. Thomas and Sul Ross State.
Annie Trejo (JR/Park City, Utah) led the way for the Saints in the 6k with a 24:20, followed by Andrea Gandara (SO/Kaufman, Texas) at 27:04, Sarah Taylor (SR/Austin, Texas) at 27:13, Peyton Lammons (FR/Prosper, Texas) at 27:44 and Amairanie Villarreal (SO/San Antonio, Texas) at 31:22.
The Saints will travel to Winfield, Kan., next for the NAIA Midstates Classic hosted by Southwestern College on Oct. 20.
