WINFIELD, KAN. (Oct. 20, 2018) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's cross-country team placed ninth in the 2018 NAIA Mid-States Classic hosted by Southwestern College.
Head Coach Stephen Sherman commented, "Mid-States is one of my favorite meets I have been involved with, and today was amazing. The weather was spot on and the course ran fast. It's always nice too to experience success at this meet, which both women and men did today."
Capturing the event was Wayland Baptist, followed by Oklahoma City, MidAmerica Nazarene, Southwestern, Columbia, Benedictine, Southern Nazarene and Park. After OLLU were Avila, Texas Wesleyan, Doane, St. Thomas, Missouri Valley, York, Ottawa, McPherson, Evangel, Sterling, Southwestern Assemblies of God, Cottey College, Peru State, Bethany and Bacone.
Sherman said, "On a day where Sabrina Garcia (FR/Brownsville, Texas) was a little banged up, our other women really stepped up. Annie Trejo (JR/Park City, Utah) did Annie type things turning in her best race of the season breaking 19 minutes and finishing in the top 20. Also, Andrea Gandara (SO/Kaufman, Texas) and Sarah Taylor (SR/Austin, Texas) looked more like themselves, and Peyton Lammons (FR/Prosper, Texas) and Audren Pineda (FR/Brownsville, Texas) improved on the season. A top 10 finish at this meet is nothing to take for granted at all. I'm very proud of and happy for the women.
OLLU's Annie Trejo came in 16th place with a time of 18:48.57 in the 5K. Andrea Gandra finished with a time of 20:04.75. Sabrina Garcia followed with a time of 20:36.69. Sarah Taylor was next with a time of 20:53.47, followed by Peyton Lammons at 22:00.87 and Audren Pineda at 22:42.59
The Saints will host the Red River Athletic Conference Championships on Nov. 2 at the Windcrest Golf Club.
