TEXARKANA, TEXAS (Nov. 7, 2018) -- The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's soccer team returned to the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) postseason tournament after a disappointing 2017. The Saints got back on track this year to qualify for their eighth trip to the tournament; they defeated the University of the Southwest last week in the quarterfinals and will face No. 2 seed LSU-Shreveport in the semifinals on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Their game follows the opener between No. 1 seed University of St. Thomas and No. 4 seed LSU-Alexandria at 11 a.m.
St. Thomas finished their regular season as the champions with a 10-0-1 conference record. LSU-Shreveport closed out the year with a 9-0-2 record, and the No. 3 Saints finished their regular season with a 8-2-1 conference record. LSU-Alexandria concluded the regular season with a 7-2-2 record.
The winners of the two matches will play on Friday, Nov. 9, at 5 p.m.
Prior to last year, the Saints had captured four consecutive regular season and tournament titles, qualifying for the national tournament four years in a row. Last year was their first losing season (4-6/6-10), but this year, they returned to success to post a 12-4-1 overall record.
Statistically, the Saints averaged 3.29 goals per game, and tallied the most total goals in the conference with 56. They averaged 1.65 assists per game and recorded the third most in the conference with 28. The team averaged 21.35 shots per game with a total of 191 shots– the most in the conference. The Saints also had the most shutouts of conference opponents with eight.
Freshman Dawson Brinkley (FR/San Antonio, Texas) had a breakout season for the Saints. She led the conference in points/game with 49/2.88 and in goals/game with 21/1.24. She is third in game-winning goals with six. Brinkley also became the Saints season leader in goals, and she is six away from the shots on goal leader (40/46) and two away from total shots (73/75).
