LUBBOCK, TEXAS (Feb. 17, 2019) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's indoor track and field crew participated in the Texas Texas University Matador Open on Friday.
Head Coach Stephen Sherman said, "It is rare in track and field, at least in my experience, to compete in a meet where every athlete in the group is dialed in and are all successful on some level. Most if not all of our athletes hit season bests, career bests and or school records. Coach Terry Smith and I left the meet with a certain level of contentment that was different. To be quite honest it was a little odd not being disconcerted about anything, but it was refreshing too. I am very proud of this group."
The results are as follows:
Aundrea Culliver (JR/Round Top, Texas)
Miki Romain (JR/Austin, Texas)
Culliver ran a school record in the 60m at 8.06 and Romain ran the second fastest time in school history at 8.13.
Samantha Millan (SR/El Paso, Texas)
Amanda Esparza (SO/San Antonio, Texas)
Esparza ran a school record in the 200m at 26.42, and Millan ran the third fastest time in school history at 27.22.
Romain improved her qualification time in the 60m hurdles to an official 9.13, which is good for #26 in the NAIA.
Audren Pineda (FR/Brownsville, Texas)
Culliver jumped a school record in the long jump at 5.33m, and Pineda jumped the second farthest long jump in school history at 4.89m.
Culliver ran a school record in the 400m at 59.81, and Esparza ran the second fastest time in school history at 1:01.21.
Sherman commented, "Aundrea had a heck of a meet to say the least. I was really impressed with her attitude and focus in all of her events. It's wild to think in the same day she broke three school records, and she very nearly qualified for the NAIA indoor meet in the long jump. Coach Smith has done a fantastic job with her, and her class and developed maturity are really starting to show."
