SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 17, 2019) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team came home after two tough losses on the road and got back on track to trample the University of the Southwest 99-63. The Saints are now 21-6 overall and 14-2 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Mustangs drop to 6-17 overall and 3-13 in conference.
The Saints are 19-1 over the Mustangs. Earlier this season, they defeated the Mustangs 95-70.
Destinee King (SR/Antelope, Calif.) took the first basket and the teams tied twice before the Saints took control. After that, they went on a 14-0 run to lead 18-4. They kept a double-digit lead through the last seconds of the quarter, when the Saints maintained the 24-18 lead.
A 3-pointer from Mikki Flores (SR/San Antonio, Texas) got the Saints back to a double-digit lead at 32-22. They kept it that way through the fourth minute, when the Mustangs trailed by nine. Kasey Saldana (JR/San Antonio, Texas) sank a field goal and the Saints now led 48-38. After a turnover by the Saints the Mustangs got under 10 at 51-42 to close out the half.
Patience Okpe (JR/Benue, Nigeria) gave the Saints the 11-point lead at the beginning of the third quarter. Dezeree White (FR/Houston, Texas) pushed the Saints to a 20-plus lead with less than six minutes left in the period and the Saints closed out the third leading 79-50. The Mustangs were only able to score eight points in the entire quarter.
Saldana made a shot to move the Saints to a 30-plus lead. At the four-minute mark, Alexis White (FR/Houston, Texas) gave the Saints the 95-55 lead. – their biggest of the game.
A pair of free throws from USW closed out the game giving the Saints the 99-63 win.
Dezeree White led the Saints with 18 points followed by Kasey Saldana with 17, Jamia Miller (JR/Odessa, Texas) with 13, Regina Sheffield (SR/Menifee, Calif.) with 11 and Alexis White and Destinee King with 10. King added nine rebounds. USW's Harlei Haceesa led her team with 14 points.

The Saints combined for 36-of-78 from the field for 46.2 percent, 7-of-15 from beyond the arc for 46.7 percent and 20-of-27 from the charity stripe for 74.1 percent. USW was 18-of-47 shooting for 38.3 percent, 1-of-5 from the three-point line for 20.0 percent and 26-of-30 free throws for 86.7 percent. OLLU tallied 32 rebounds and USW had 32. Additionally, the Saints forced 37 turnovers and only committed 14.
OLLU will host Wiley College on Feb. 21 at 5:30 p.m.
