VICTORIA, TEXAS (Feb. 17-18, 2019) – The Our Lady of the Lake University's (OLLU) men's golf team participated in the Seventh Annual University of Houston-Victoria Claud Jacobs Collegiate Invitational Feb. 17-18 at the Victoria Country Club. The Saints recorded a fifth place finish for the tournament and showed signs of greatness heading into the heart of their 2019 schedule.
Head Coach Alan E. Baxter commented, "After round one, we were tied for first place. We slid in the wrong direction after that. Just recently, Yung was declared eligible and played as an individual. If he was in the top five, I believe we would have come in second as a team. He will help us. He did well for his first college tournament. Scott is knocking the rust off after six years away from college golf as he served a little more than four years in the Marines. This was his second tournament. I am confident he will continue to grow. As a team over all, I believe we have tremendous upside. However, we have a long way to go and a short time to get there. Time to grind."
Day one of the tournament went well for the Saints. They were able to shoot low scores and stand atop of the leader board. Scott Tredo (SO/Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas) excelled on the course and finished tied for first after the first two rounds recording a 72-74/146. Steve Landry (SR/Cibolo, Texas), a seasoned veteran for the Saints, tied for 16th place after posting a 76-77/153. Kane Ybarra (JR/San Antonio, Texas) posted an 80-79/159 and Raul Gutierrez (FR/San Antonio, Texas) recorded a 77-82/159, which resulted in a tie for 31st place. Louis Flynn (SR/Surrey, England) rounded out leader board for the Saints after finishing tied for 39th shooting 77-85/162. The Saints ended day one in fifth place after playing 36 holes and recorded a combined 302/312.
The second day of the tournament ended with the Saints earning an overall fifth place finish after posting a combined 302-312-325/939. OLLU's Tredo tied for fifth place (72-74-81/227) followed by Landry who tied for 14th place (76-77-79/232), Ybarra who earned 31st place (80-79-82/241), Flynn who tied for 35th place (77-85-83/245) and Gutierrez who finished tied for 41st place (77-82-88/247).
