STERLINGTON, LA. (May 2, 2018) - The Red River Athletic Conference announced the 2019 All-Conference Team this evening at the conference tournament hosted by LSU-Shreveport.
Selected as Co-Newcomer of the Year was Aaron Gonzalez (JR/Houston, Texas) from Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU). He along with Logan Garza (SO/Round Rock, Texas) and Jose Diaz (JR/Pinar del Rio, Cuba) were selected to the All-Conference First Team.
Jacob Mitchell (SO/Harker Heights, Texas ) was selected to the Gold Glove Team as the first baseman.
Ryan Chapa (SO/Corpus Christi, Texas) was named the team's Champions of Character.
In his first season, Gonzalez has played in 13 games as a starting pitcher. He had three complete games and has won six games and lost six. He's pitched 76.2 innings, allowing 33 runs, 21 of which were earned. His ERA is 2.47, and he has 86 strikeouts.
Garza has won seven games and lost three, and he has played in 12 games this season with an ERA of 2.51. He has 80 strikeouts.
Diaz has started in all 50 games for the Saints. His batting average is .310, and in 163 at-bats, he has 34 runs, 49 hits, 11 doubles, three triples, four home runs and 35 RBIs.
Mitchell has played in 45 games. In 277 chances, he has had 254 putouts and has recorded 22 assists for a fielding percentage of .996.
Chapa, in his second year as a Saint, has played in 38 games, and in 93 at bats, he has had 17 runs, 24 hits, four doubles, one triple, one home run and 18 RBIs. He has a fielding percentage of .938.
