ALEXANDRIA, LA. (May 4, 2019) – Our Lady of the Lake University's (OLLU) softball team bounced back from a tough loss in the opening round of the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Softball Tournament and defeated Jarvis Christian College (JCC) 6-3.
The Saints hold the all-time record of 12-3 when facing the Lady Bulldogs.
Getting the start in the circle for the Saints was Ciera Martinez (SO/San Antonio, Texas). She went the full seven innings for the Saints and allowed four hits. Martinez added seven strikeouts and only issued two walks.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped on the board early in the first inning adding one run. OLLU was able to hold JCC to one run and they busted the game open with a phenomenal fourth inning. In the fourth inning, Joanna Gonzalez (FR/San Benito, Texas) kicked things off with a single. A fielder's choice put Ariel Montgomery (FR/San Antonio, Texas) on the bases and Gonzalez was the first out of the inning. A double from Madison Nunn (FR/Cibolo, Texas) advanced Montgomery to third. Amanda Guerra (SR/Stafford, Texas) was issued a walk and that loaded the bases for the Saints. Ciera Martinez came up to bat, earned a walk and JCC walked in the first run for the Saints. Jennifer Estrada (FR/El Paso, Texas) stepped into the batter's box and was issued a walk. This scored another run for the Saints. A single from Kayla Dreese (FR/San Antonio, Texas) scored Guerra and moved the baserunners over. A hard hit double to center from Kennah Kennedy (SO/Frost, Texas) scored two runs for the Saints and advanced the runners who were on the bases. Madeline Wolken (SO/Houston, Texas) hit a sacrifice fly to center and Dreese was able to add to the Saints' lead. A pop out from Gonzalez ended the inning.
JCC was unable to recover from the Saints' potent offense, but they were able to score one run in the fifth and sixth innings. The Lady Bulldogs' season ended after the elimination game.
OLLU now has one loss in the tournament from LSUA and will face the Generals in an elimination game. The Saints are set to take on the Generals at 12:45 p.m. at the Generals Softball Field, which is located at LSUA in Alexandria, La. The tournament will be broadcast on the RRAC Network (Stretch Internet). Follow along with the live stats here.
