SAN ANTONIO (May 28, 2019) – Our Lady of the Lake University's (OLLU) men's soccer team has released the schedule for the 2019 season. The Saints are set to compete in two scrimmages, one exhibition and 17 regular season contests in the upcoming year. Additionally, the Saints are also set to host their annual OLLU Soccer Alumni event for previous players, current players and families to enjoy.
OLLU's Athletic Director and Soccer Head Coach Shane Hurley stated, "This season, Saints fans will have the opportunity to cheer our guys on at our home field. The level of competition for this upcoming season matches that of previous seasons. We look forward to competing against NJCAA, NCAA and NAIA programs to prepare us for our regular season and postseason goals."
This season marks Hurley's 13th season at the helm of the men's soccer program. During the summer of 2018, Hurley was named the interim athletic director, and in January 2019 he was officially named the athletic director for OLLU Saints Athletics.
OLLU's men's soccer team will commence their season with a scrimmage at home on Aug. 15 against NJCAA Laredo Community College. The Saints will host an alumni event for former men's soccer players and their families on Aug. 17. On Aug. 22, the Saints will travel to Seguin, Texas to take on NCAA DIII Texas Lutheran University in a scrimmage. The Saints' preseason will end with an exhibition game against LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas on Aug. 24.
The regular season of the 2019 schedule will begin at OLLU's Soccer Field on Aug. 26 with a match against NCAA DIII Schreiner University. OLLU will then host a regular season game against NCAA DII St. Mary's University on Aug. 31. Oklahoma City University will pay a visit to the Saints on Sept. 2 and newly minted NCAA DIII University of St. Thomas will take on OLLU on Sept. 4. The final two home nonconference games will take place on Sept. 6 against Southwestern Christian University and Sept. 9 against Wayland Baptist University. The Saints will travel down the road to take on NCAA DI University of the Incarnate word on Sept. 12 and their final nonconference game will take place on Sept. 14 in Belton, Texas against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
OLLU will open up their Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) play against Texas A&M University-Texarkana on Sept. 26 at the OLLU Soccer Field. The Saints will then host RRAC opponent Paul Quinn College on Sept. 28.
The Saints will head out for a four-game road stint beginning on Oct. 3 with a game in Hawkins, Texas against Jarvis Christian College. OLLU will travel to Tyler, Texas on Oct. 5 to face RRAC opponent Texas College. The Saints will head up I-35 to take on conference foe Huston-Tillotson University on Oct. 10 and the road stint will wrap up with a game in Hobbs, N.M. against the University of the Southwest.
On Oct. 17, the Saints are set to host conference opponent LSU-Alexandria and the final home game of the season will take place on Oct. 19 against LSU-Shreveport. The final conference game of the 2019 season will take place on Oct. 26 in Victoria, Texas against the University of Houston-Victoria.
After the regular season, the RRAC will host the opening round of the 2019 RRAC Men's Soccer Tournament at campus sites. The sixth seed will play at the third seed's home field, while the fifth seed will play at the home field of the fourth seed. The first and second seed teams will have a bye.
The RRAC Tournament champion will receive an automatic bid to the 60th Annual Men's Soccer National Championship Opening Round at campus sites. Winners advance to the tournament site at the OC Great Park Soccer Stadium in Irvine, Calif.
