WACO, TEXAS (June 5, 2019) – Our Lady of the Lake University's (OLLU) athletic department is excited to announce Patty Constantin as the sports information director of the year for the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) for the 2018-2019 season.
Constantin was selected as the SID of the Year by a vote from her conference peers. The award recognizes an individual who is continuously working to improve the promotion of their athletic programs, collaboration among conference SIDs, serving the conference, distribution of timely and accurate information, driving media coverage, gameday operations, and increasing social media outreach.
This is Constantin's 12th year with the Saints and she has served all 12 of her years within the athletic department. Constantin has been with the athletic department at OLLU since its inception and she has continued to improve the sports information department each year.
Athletic Director Shane Hurley commented, "Patty is an amazing person both in the workplace and outside of the workplace. She cares about our athletes and wants to see them succeed, which makes our department flourish. She and her staff put in countless hours each day to ensure that we are receiving the coverage that we need in order to grow as a program. This award is well deserved and we are proud to have someone as dedicated as Patty within our department."
Constantin and her department, filled with a sports information assistant and student employees, have pushed OLLU Saints Athletics to the top of the conference with their impeccable communications/public relations execution. This season, Constantin and her team focused on the development of a social media plan.
The sports information department focused on the creation of original content, which included "hype" videos created specifically for social media. The team also created specialized graphics to commemorate milestones for each sports' accomplishments as well as the accomplishments of individuals associated with each sport.
Live streaming is another example of the efforts that Constantin has put forth in order to propel the athletic department forward. The Saints recently signed a deal with Stretch Internet to broadcast the majority of athletic events taking place at or featuring OLLU. Constantin went a step further and solidified a deal with KSAT.com to broadcast the majority of Saints home games through LCTVInc. and Ed Lozano.
Constantin's role with the RRAC increased this season as OLLU hosted conference championships for men's cross country, women's cross country, volleyball and men's golf. She is also instrumental in seeking out San Antonio media coverage for the stellar programs that OLLU offers, building on national championship appearances by multiple teams and a Fab Four finish for the women's basketball team.
Constantin continues to be a leader in the industry of athletic communications as well as public relations.
Sports Information Assistant Sera Quiroga stated, "I have had the pleasure of working with Patty for two years now, but many do not know that I started my sports information career in her office as a student employee. She has been a great mentor and friend in the industry. I feel blessed to have someone that I work with who looks like me and is from a similar background as myself. There is not another person who is more deserving of this award. I am proud of Patty for the amazing things that she has done in her 12 years with athletics and I am excited to see what she has in store for Saints Athletics in the years to come."
Constantin brings more than 30 years of public relations experience to OLLU. She has been honored as the San Antonio Public Relations Professional of the Year, OLLU's Rosemary Saenz Staff Excellence Award and the Women in Communications National Clarion Award.
Constantin's SID of the Year award marks the third time she has been bestowed the honor. This is the sixth year for the conference award. Previously, Richard Thiberville of LSU-Alexandria won the award during the 2017-2018 season. Constantin won it in 2014-2015 and 2015-2016.
