SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 27, 2019) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's soccer team defeated Schreiner University 5-1 in its first regular-season game of 2019.
The Saints had four different goal scorers, including a penalty kick goal by Juan Martin Chica (SO/Cali, Colombia) after he was tackled at the 48:38 mark. Randy Dominguez (FR/Katy, Texas) scored the first goal of the game, marking his first goal as a member of OLLU. Mitchell Medrano (JR/Baytown, Texas) scored twice and tallied two assists in his first game as a Saint. Patrick Pye (SO/Norwich, Norfolk, U.K.) also scored his first goal with OLLU on an assist from Medrano.
Head Coach Shane Hurley commented, "A lot of our goals came off of players that were pressing higher up the field, and there was a willingness to play off of turnovers, so I liked the aggressive mentality going forward."

Leading the way for the Saints' offense was Medrano, who had four shots. Samuel Villegas (FR/San Antonio, Texas) and Chica followed with two shots. Four different players for Schreiner led the team with one shot each.
Overall, the Saints tallied 16 shots, eight on goal. The Mountaineers recorded four shots, three on goal.
OLLU starting keeper Keelin Garrity (SO/Katy, Texas) tallied two saves and played the duration of the game.
Schreiner's Israel Duenas was shown a yellow card at the 17th minute.
Schreiner's Luis Neri was shown a yellow card at the 49th minute, which led to a successful penalty kick by OLLU.
Men's soccer will play at home against Southwestern Christian University on Aug. 30 at 12 p.m.
