SAN ANTONIO (Sept. 9, 2019) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's soccer team lost 2-1 to Wayland Baptist University (WBU) on Monday. The Saints are now 1-1-1 on the season.
Head Coach Arthur Salazar said "It's obviously disappointing to come away with a loss. This was the first loss against Wayland Baptist in the history of the program. It just comes back to us not being good enough in the final third."
Sarah Miles (FR/Helotes, Texas) scored a sliding goal for the Saints just four minutes into the game. She was the only player to score for OLLU, and it was her first goal of the season. WBU scored two goals in the first half and held the Saints scoreless in the second frame. The Pioneers have yet to lose a game this season. In the second half, Baye Polansky (JR/Helotes, Texas) had a string of chances to tie the game and finished with four total shots, two of those on goal. The game was toe-to-toe, with both teams having 17 shots and the Pioneers recording one more save than the Saints. Both teams finished with seven fouls, and Wayland Baptist received a yellow card in the 90th minute for interfering with the goalkeeper.
