HOBBS, N.M. (Oct. 6, 2019) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) volleyball team defeated the University of the Southwest (USW) 3-1 on Saturday. The Saints improve to 13-3 overall and 6-1 in Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) play.
Head Coach Scott Mattera commented on the win, "Sometimes in the grid of the season you just need to fight, survive and move on. That's exactly what we did today. USW came to play today and really pushed us. It wasn't our prettiest match but I'm so proud of how we stayed together. Our togetherness even showed up in the stats with five different attackers putting away five or more kills."
The Saints were tested early in the match, winning the first set 26-24. Sadie Ballesteros (FR/San Antonio, Texas) continued her impressive play from the previous match by recording nine kills against the Mustangs. Natalie Fazio (SR/Plano, Texas) also tallied nine kills and led the team with a .318 hitting percentage. The Saints lead the RRAC with a .813 winning percentage.
This is the 18th matchup against USW. The Saints have won six straight games against the Mustangs and are 14-3 overall against USW.
