WACO, Texas (Oct. 7, 2019) - Sadie Ballesteros (FR/San Antonio, Texas) of Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) was awarded the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Volleyball Attacker of the Week award for Sept. 30-Oct. 6, while teammate Alyssa Marquez (SO/Albuquerque, N.M.) was named RRAC Defender of the Week for the same dates. This is the seventh set of conference awards for the 2019 volleyball season.
Ballesteros posted a .340 hitting percentage in two OLLU conference victories last week. The freshman outside hitter reached double-digits with 13 kills in a 3-0 win over Paul Quinn College and 10 to defeat the University of the Southwest, 3-1. Ballesteros also contributed five digs and six assisted blocks. The San Antonio native is third in the RRAC with a .262 hitting percentage. The Saints are locked in a three-way tie for first in the conference at 6-1 with an overall mark of 13-3.
Marquez stepped into the libero spot for the Saints due to an injury and contributed 51 digs in the two OLLU wins. The sophomore defensive specialist from Albuquerque, N.M., amassed 40 digs against USW, and only committing nine errors in 95 receiving attempts for the week. Marquez also powered in four service aces. She is second in the RRAC with 4.6 digs per set.
