SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 17, 2019) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) volleyball team fell in a close match to the University of the Southwest (USW) 3-2. The Saints dro to 14-4 on the season and 6-2 in Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) play. The Mustangs improve to 8-18 on the season and 4-4 in conference play.
Head Coach Scott Mattera commented on the match, saying, "There's no shame in losing to them as hard as they played. We got outworked on our home court, and that's 100 percent on me. We need to figure out what needs to get us more motivated on the court, and it's got to get more consistent."
The Saints started strong by winning the first set 25-11. The Mustangs battled back to take the second set 25-17 but would falter in the third set 25-21. In a thrilling fourth set, the Mustangs beat the Saints 29-27 by recording 15 kills. In a fifth set decider, Southwest took away multiple match points for the Saints and won 18-16 to win the match. The Mustangs recorded 76 digs in the win.
