WINFIELD, KAN. (Oct. 26, 2019) - The Our Lady of the Lake University men's cross-country team participated in the 2019 NAIA Mid-States Classic sponsored by Southwestern College this morning. The Saints placed ninth out of 20 teams.
Head Coach Stephen Sherman said, "Mid-States is the only meet we've been to every year since this program started in 2009, and the reason for that is that it is a fantastic meet. This year proved to be no different as the weather, course and vibe were all great. That being said, the men responded with a top-10 finish."
Winning the race was Oklahoma City University, followed by Doane, Wayland Baptist, Evangel, Benedictine, College of the Ozarks, Friends, Ottawa and OLLU. Next were Southwestern Assemblies of God, Southwestern, Kansas Wesleyan, Hastings, Park, Texas Wesleyan, MidAmerica Nazarene, McPherson, Bethany, University of the Southwest and York.
Nathaniel Rodriguez (FR/San Antonio, Texas) had the best finish for the Saints as he logged a 26:25.83. Christopher Marcus (FR/Helotes, Texas) finished with a 27:09.11, followed by Isaac Martinez (FR/Weslaco, Texas) at 27:11.80, Miguel Segura (JR/San Antonio, Texas) at28:00.99, Andrew Moczygemba (SR/San Antonio, Texas) at 28:16.05, Hector Puente (FR/McAllen, Texas) at 1`8:17.88, Jose Zarate (SO/San Antonio, Texas) at 28:44.36, Patrick Duncan (SO/El Paso, Texas) at 29:54.18 and Antonio Bustamante (SO/San Antonio, Texas) at 30:26.60.
Sherman said, "What a day for Nate. Wow. Beyond him wasn't anything to hang our heads about either. It wasn't a predictable finish from man-to-man, but who cares? It was a solid performance regardless."
The Saints will get set to hose the Red River Athletic Conference Championship on Nov. 8 at the Windcrest Golf Club in Windcrest, Texas.
