WINFIELD, KAN. (Oct. 26, 2019) - The Our Lady of the Lake University men's cross-country team participated in the 2019 NAIA Mid-States Classic sponsored by Southwestern College this morning. The Saints placed eighth out of 19 teams.
Head Coach Stephen Sherman said, "Mid-States is the only meet we've been to every year since this program started in 2009, and the reason for that is that it is a fantastic meet. This year proved to be no different as the weather, course and vibe were all great. That being said, the women responded with a top-10 finish."
Winning the race was Oklahoma City, followed by Friends, College of the Ozarks, Benedictine, Doane, Park, MidAmerican Nazarene and OLLU. Next were Tabor, Southwestern, Kansas Wesleyan, York, Hastings, Evangel, McPherson, Bethany, Southwestern Assemblies of God, Ottawa and Peru State.
Top finishers for the Saints were Nadia Sifuentes at 20:04.32 and Sabrina Garcia at 20:04.85. Next were Lindsey Broussard at 20:15.78, Andrea Gandara at 20:37.15, Kimber Watson at 20:56.50, Robie Sue Espericueta at 21:35.06, Alyssa Vidales at 21:37.18, Peyton Lammons at 22:43.74 and Gloria Cervantes at 24:42.62.
Sherman concluded, "That was a complete team performance. Any time your top five are within a minute of each other and the times are of a certain quality then good things happen. That really is what cross-country is all about. The women all ran well respectively too. It's a good way to go into our conference meet."
The Saints will get set for the Red River Athletic Conference Championships on Nov. 8. The team will host the meet at the Windcrest Golf Club in Windcrest, Texas.
