WACO, TEXAS (Nov. 4, 2019) -- Natalie Fazio (SR/Plano, Texas) of Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) was honored as the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Volleyball Attacker of the Week for Oct. 28-Nov. 3. OLLU's Anissa Tamez (JR/San Antonio, Texas) was selected as RRAC Setter of the Week, and the Saints' Alyssa Marquez (SO/Albuquerque, N.M.) earned RRAC Defender of the Week for the same dates. This is the 11th and final set of conference awards for the 2019 volleyball season.
Fazio blasted 32 kills as the Saints won a pair of games last week. The senior outside hitter compiled 19 kills and eight digs in a 3-2 win over Schreiner University, and she tacked on 13 kills to sweep Texas College. For the week, Fazio posted a .537 hitting percentage with only three errors in 54 total attacks. The native of Plano, Texas, ranked fourth in the conference in kills (216) and fifth in hitting percentage (.236) this season. OLLU finishes the regular season in third place in the RRAC at 8-4 with an overall mark of 17-6. OLLU will play on Friday as the host of the 2019 RRAC Volleyball Championship in San Antonio.
Tamez averaged 11.3 assists per set for the Saints last week. The junior from San Antonio recorded 91 assists in OLLU's two matches including a new school record of 59 against Schreiner. She also provided 16 digs to wrap up the regular season. Tamez placed second in the RRAC with 9.6 assists per set and a total of 614 this season
Marquez scooped 57 digs to support OLLU's defense last week. The sophomore defensive specialist accounted for 33 digs against Schreiner and averaged 7.1 digs per set for the week. Marquez, a native of Albuquerque, N.M., led the RRAC with 4.9 digs per set this season.
